Hi Jim and Denise

I purchased a copy of Jim’s biography at the Winternationals and wanted to congratulate both you on a great read (please pardon the pun). Fantastic that you still have great passion for the sport despite the adversity you and your family have faced as a direct consequence of your involvement with drag racing. My partner races regularly at Sydney and we are so very lucky to have such a great venue. This is largely due to your efforts and for this we thank you.

Cheers

Liz

Mr Jim Read,

I have just finished reading your book. What a fantastic story!. I couldn't put it down and had to keep reading every chance I got. My mate finished reading his on the Monday after the Winternationals!!

Willowbank is our local track and there has been many meetings over the years where we have walked away going "How about Jim Read!! How good was that!" and we often said if it wasn't for Jim Read some of those meetings would have been very average.....

I got interested in drag racing when my parents took me to a meeting at Surfers Paradise Raceway in the mid eighties and since then have been hooked. I have raced and intend to start racing again with my boys and am an enthusiastic spectator.

We used to travel down to calder park, eastern creek, attended the first meeting at WSID and we always make the trip down for the nitro champs each year and to support WSID.

We greatly appreciate what you have done for the sport. It is disappointing that the small uneducated minority have made things difficult for you. Glad to see your team back racing.

Respect and thank you.

Kind Regards
Mark

Mr Jim Read,
I recently attended the Winternationals, one a very few Americans and received a signed copy of your book. We even chatted for a bit. Thank you very much for that and your time!

A few things I brought away from my trip to Australia and Willowbank Raceway.

Australia was great to me, especially the Australian Drag Race world! The fans, the teams, all welcomed me like I was a long lost cousin. The passion of drag racing is definitely universal! One thing that I learned very quickly, is most teams have virtually little or no sponsorship, unfortunately neither does Jim Read Racing, yet they continue to race, because they love this sport so much.

I new a bit of Jim Read, before Australia, but after meeting you at Willowbank and reading your book, I think I have a fairly good insight about Jim Read. It all sounded so simple, gather the drag race community and build us a track!
I for one, believe every bit of your story, because my gut tells me you are a man of integrity and some of the crap in the book...you just can't make up!
Not sure if it means anything, but I'd like to apologize for the idiots that tried to undermine you, your family and Drag Racing in Australia. I can't even imagine what your life was like. Drag Racing is just an awesome sport, think I love it more then life itself and again I'm truly sorry for everything your had to go through, just trying to improve the greatest sport on the planet!

If I would have followed my passion...sitting in Chess Busheys' TAD when I was about 10 and watching him do long smoky burnouts down Main Street in Ramona, California,, during the Country Fair parade, maybe my life would have turned out a bit different. But for now, I travel the globe, watching drag racing and meeting the Jim Reads', and other legends of the sport and that's ok, I still get my fix, but I truly believe 24/7/365 would bot be enough!

In closing, an awesome book, it will go in my man cave, along with the rest of my Australian drag racing memorabilia! If I ever make it to Australia, and I hope I do, you can bet your ass, it will be at an event...Jim Read will be racing at!

Thank you and God Bless
Most Respectfully,
Walter Bullard
