The “Flying Greek” Martin Stamatis and crew got a well deserved
home town win at the last Perth Top Fuel round
The Jim Read Racing team is
returning to the Perth Motorplex this weekend for round three of the
ANDRA Pro Series Top Fuel Championship to be held Friday 8th
and Saturday 9th January.
Both Phil Read and Martin Stamatis
posted some great runs at the last round with Read top qualifying
running back to back 4.6’s and making the semi-finals, and then with
Stamatis winning the event after a string of 4.7 second laps, it was
a good racing weekend all round for the JRR team.
The team also tested with Phil’s car
this Wednesday 6th January at a test and tune day at the
Perth Motorplex after JRR had some new fuel system parts flown in
from the United States this week, and after their test session at
the Motorplex today, they are very happy with the car’s performance
after some half track test runs, so the team are now looking forward
to a great weekend ahead, and also welcome McDonalds on board as new
team sponsors. Phil Read commented: “I am pleased and proud that
McDonald’s have agreed to join our team as a corporate partner,
together with all of our other great sponsors and partners, JRR will
continue to race in the ANDRA Pro Series across Australia proudly
carrying their colours and branding. McDonald’s are a quality
organisation, and we plan on delivering quality results for them and
for our race team. It’s going to be great.”
With
some tough competition entered for this weekend which has drawn
seven Top Fuel cars, it is not going to be easy to hold off the
other teams, but for Stamatis and Read, they will be doing their
best to stay consistent and run as fast as they can.
Stamatis commented: “It was magic to
win at the last round after trying so hard for so long, and to
finally get the win in Perth in front of my home crowd was a credit
to the team who work so hard to give me a fast and reliable race
car. So this weekend we are focusing again on trying to stay
consistent and fast, and hope to repeat the performance from our win
four weeks ago”.
